5 Tips To Clean Milk Stains From Upholstery

Spills and stains often seem to arise out of nowhere no matter how hard you try to avoid them. Milk stains are one of the most common stains on furniture. Whether the upholstery is leather, pleather, or woven material, the sooner you address the milk spill, the easier it will be to clean up and the less likely it will stink sour. It’s possible to get rid of it with everyday items. You can remove annoying milk stains without ruining the cloth underneath by using the appropriate procedures and having the right cleaning tools.
How to clean up milk stains
Blot up fresh spills
If the milk spill is still fresh, quickly grab some paper towels or absorbent white cloths like towels and dab the spill as much as possible. If there is a zipper, open it and insert a dry towel or stack of paper towels between the upholstery and the foam to catch any liquid that soaks through. Wipe the area with a damp white towel, followed by a dry cloth to absorb excess moisture after blotting as much milk as possible. If you doubt that it has penetrated deeper into the upholstery, you must hire professional upholstery cleaners to clean.
Apply cleaning solution
Prepare a mixture of water and mild dishwashing liquid or hand soap in a bowl. For one cup of water, you should only need a few drops of soap. Start patting the stain with a clean sponge dipped in the solution until it’s somewhat damp. Apply the solution carefully from the edges to the centre. It’s important to remember that the fabric should only become moist, not soaked. Rinse the soap from the sofa with a clean sponge.
Cleaning up dried stains
If the milk is already dry, you’ll need to remove part of it before washing it with a wet solution; otherwise, wetting the area may reconstitute the milk and cause it to penetrate even deeper into the upholstery. With your fingernails or the edge of a plastic spoon or spatula, pick at the dried milk. Instead of abrading the upholstery, try to simply scrape the milk. The flakes can be vacuumed or swept away.
Wash the stained area
To a cup of cool water, add a drop or two of dishwashing liquid and stir well. Dip a sponge into the soapy water and squeeze out as much moisture as possible. To prevent the milk from spreading, dab, blot, and wipe the damaged area, cleaning from the outer borders of the spill toward the centre. Frequently rinse the sponge or cloth. Continue blotting with soapy water until the milk is gone, then rinse the towel and re-wipe the area. Using a clean cloth, pat the area dry.
Remove odours
Even though the upholstery smells fine after cleaning with soap and water, the fabric on any style of woven or porous upholstery might develop a sour milk odour. Sprinkle baking soda on the afflicted region and let it sit for at least one night. Baking soda, as it does in the refrigerator, absorbs odours trapped in clothing. The baking soda can be brushed off or vacuumed up the next day. Use an upholstery brush attachment when vacuuming to protect the fabric.
