You might think we’ll start with a circle for this soccer ball tutorial, but we’ll start with a hexagon. A ruler will be needed to get some straight edges for this step. Drawing a hexagon can be more complicated than it looks, so it may take a bit of practice. You can do it if you try your best!
Step 2: Draw in a circle for the contour.
We didn’t draw a circle in the previous step, but let’s make a circle for this next step! For this step, using a tool like a drawing compass will be very helpful to get a perfect process. If you’ve never used one of these drawing tools before, you can clip a pencil and rotate it with the tip to draw a circle. If you don’t have access to a drawing compass, you can also use a circular object you have available and then draw around it to form your circle. Regardless of how you draw the process, try to get the hexagon close to the center, as you can see in the figure.
Step 3: Now, we will add more shapes to the pattern.
Using your center hexagon, we will add more shapes in this tutorial on drawing. Instead of a hexagon, we will add a pentagon in this step. Using the reference image as your guide, we’ll add three pentagons to the sides of the central hexagon. All this talk about shapes can be confusing when you’re reading it, but reference images will be of great help with shapes and their placement.
Step 4: Continue adding more shapes to your soccer ball.
We have already drawn many shapes for your soccer ball drawing, and in this image, we will add even more conditions. Using the space between the three pentagons in the previous step, you can then use the ruler to draw some more hexagons between them. Most of your soccer ball drawing interior will be filled with added shapes.
Step 5: Now, draw some final details.
Time to add some final details before moving on to the last step of this soccer ball tutorial! These details will be pretty easy for you to draw. Using your ruler, draw some lines from each shape point on the edges of the outermost shapes to the outline of the ball. The reference image will give you a great idea of its look. Before moving on to the final stage of drawing the soccer ball, you can also remove some final details of your own! For example, you can pull the logo of your favorite football brand or even the symbol of the football team you support. Or, you can remove some background details like lines on the pitch or even a boot ready to kick a soccer ball. You can use your favorite colors to color and create your own unique soccer ball design! A fun touch that you can also try is to add some wear effects to your drawing. Using some brown paint, you can give your a dirty look to give it a well-used look. Removing some marks and rough patches will also provide the ball with a story.
