In the comics, Marc suffers from Dissociative Personality Complaint.

He entered the condition after suffering a traumatic event in Egypt where he was held by the Egyptian Moon God Khonshu. Due to the woeful event, his knowledge was resolve into multiple personalities, one of them being Marc Spector and another being Steven Grant. The Disney series will be going down a analogous route, unyoking the character between the multiple personalities.

At the press conference, Oscar Isaac opened up about what it was like playing two corridor of the same character 

.“ Well the first thing I did was to hire my family Michael Hernandez to come by and be the‘ other me’. He’s the closest thing there’s to me on earth. So he came by and play either Steven or Marc, and he’d do the accentuations and everything. Both accentuations. And so that was really helpful, to have someone who’s not only a great actor, but who also shares my DNA to play off of. And that was commodity that I did n’t anticipate … how technically demanding that was going to be. 

 Having to show up and try to decide which character I was going to play first, and also try to block that out and give my family notes,

also do the scene, also switch characters and figure it all out. Because one of the fun, if not the most delightful, effects about acting is acting contrary of notoriety and letting commodity robotic be that you did n’t anticipate. But (with this) there was n’t really an occasion to do that, and we still had to find what makes it feel robotic and not all planned out. So that was grueling.”
